Educational Advocacy

The goal of educational advocacy , is to help students remain in the public school setting with the necessary support and services to allow them to learn and graduate with their class. Early intervention into student problems is the key element in maintaining educational progress and required skill building.
Educators are on the front line with students and should be instrumental in initiating outside intervention. Additionally, educators working with parents can reduce the need for advocacy and crisis intervention. The advocacy process is intended to create an atmosphere of understanding and cooperation when these necessary factors have been lost due to increasing unresolved problems.

Advocacy Process

  • Experienced educational professionals will work with parents, students, and public schools to resolve problems and create a school success plan.
  • A temporary plan of action will be put into place to continue the student's educational progress throughout the advocacy process. An in-school or out-of-school temporary plan of action will be designed to meet the needs of each particular case.
  • The process will analyze the problem from each party's viewpoint: 1.) student, 2.) parent, and 3.) school.
  • Consultations will be conducted individually with each party in the problem-resolution process.
  • After careful consideration of each perspective, a target analysis will be written for each party to review and respond to.
  • After each party has had an opportunity to respond, a school success plan will be provided for each party to review.
  • The school success plan will be the subject of a group consultation involving all parties.
  • After the approval of the school success plan, further consultations will occur to ensure all parties are following and supporting the plan.
  • A final consult will occur six months after the plan has been put into action unless situations evolve, creating the need for further interventions.
  • This program can be initiated by either parents or school administrators.
